Gov. Chris Christie on Monday nominated Ocean County residents Russell Cherkos and Salvatore Martino as workers' compensation judges.
This is the third time Christie has recommended Cherkos for the post; nominations in December 2011 and January 2012 sputtered without action by the state Senate Judiciary Committee. Cherkos, 59, a registered Republican, is a resident of Waretown and a law partner of two state lawmakers -- Sen. Christopher Connors and Assm. Gregory McGuckin.
Martino, 50, is a registered Democrat who lives in Point Pleasant; he lost runs for Borough Council last year and in 1995, and in 2007 he lost a campaign for state Assembly in the 10th District. He's a personal injury lawyer with an office in Lakewood since 2009 and a former president of the Ocean County Bar Association.
